The most useful Excel functions for data analysis - Intellipaat

  1. LEFT/RIGHT
Effective and simple methods for removing static data from cells are =LEFT and =RIGHT. While =RIGHT returns the "x" number of characters from the cell's end, =LEFT returns the "x" number of characters from the cell's beginning. The area code of the customer is extracted from their phone number in the example below using =LEFT, and the final four digits are extracted using =RIGHT.

  2. RANK
Despite being an outdated Excel function, =RANK is still useful for data analysis. You may rapidly indicate the order of values in a dataset by using the =RANK function. The sample uses RANK to identify the clients who place the most product orders.

  3. MINIFS
=MINIFS is very similar to the min function except it allows you to take the minimum of a set of values, and match on criteria as well. In the example, =MINIFS is used to find the lowest price each product sold for.

  4. MAXIFS
Like its sibling minifs, MAXIFS also allows you to match on criteria, but this time it searches for the greatest number.

  5. SUMPRODUCT
The function =SUMPRODUCT is a great tool for figuring out typical returns, price points, and margins. SUMPRODUCT multiplies one set of values by the values in the corresponding rows. It's pure data analysis gold. In the example below, we use sumproduct to times Price by Quantity and then divide by the total volume sold to determine the average selling price of all of our products.
